World Changer. Like many college students, I wanted to be a world-changer, and I became interested in and involved with ideas and organizations which were designed to change the world for the better. I ended up taking a business law class during my undergraduate years in college, and both the professor and the content of the class stimulated my interest in law. Before I went to law school I had in mind to eventually work for some type of advocacy organization dealing with social justice issues or constitutional rights. My career did not end up going that direction, but I am still helping to serve clients in meaningful ways and being a world changer one life at a time.
Client-centered. Most people enjoy seeing an attorney as much as they do their dentist. People go to attorneys for various reasons. Some people come to me to prepare for the future; others come to me to rectify the past; still others just need assistance in navigating through legal quagmires they find themselves in. Regardless of clients’ needs, my job as an attorney is to evaluate their situations, show them all of their reasonable options (both legal, relational and otherwise), the advantages and disadvantages of each option, and help the client to make wise decisions consistent with their needs and goals and values.
Integrity. Have you ever gone to a service provider and they sell you or try to sell you something that you don’t need? Lawyers, doctors, dentists, mechanics, contractors, etc. can all be tempted to sell you and charge you for things you don’t need or want. As an attorney, I am accountable to God, the Colorado Supreme Court, and each of my clients. My commitment to my clients is to be honest and fair in my dealings, only recommending and charging for services that they actually need.
Personal life. I am a Christian; I have been married (36 years) and have 7 children and 7 grandchildren. I am involved in a local church; I conduct Bible studies at a local jail and serve at a legal aid clinic for indigent people. I enjoy exercise and staying in shape to keep up with my kids and grandkids.
